EDUCATION
Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
At Allscott Meads, and across the Learning Community Trust, we strive to meet the needs of all our pupils.
At Allscott Meads Primary School, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child can thrive and succeed. We believe that all pupils, regardless of their individual needs, should have access to a high-quality education that supports their personal, social, and academic development.
The SENCO for Allscott Meads Primary is: Amanda Weaving
Intent
Our aim is to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported to reach their full potential. We strive to identify and address individual needs early, ensuring every child has the tools and strategies to overcome challenges and flourish.
Implementation
We deliver tailored interventions and personalised support to meet the specific needs of each child.
Class teachers work closely with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to plan and adapt teaching methods and resources.
Staff receive regular training to ensure high-quality provision for SEND pupils, fostering an environment of understanding and inclusion.
We maintain strong partnerships with parents, external agencies, and the local authority to ensure a holistic approach to supporting our pupils.
broad areas of need
We recognise the four broad areas of need as outlined in the SEND code of practice:
- Communication and interaction: Including difficulties with speech, language, and communication or social interaction, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Cognition and learning: Including specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, or moderate to severe learning needs.
- Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH): Including anxiety, ADHD, or behavioural challenges that impact learning.
- Sensory and/or physical needs: Including visual or hearing impairments, or physical disabilities requiring additional support or equipment.
Accessibility plan
We are committed to ensuring that our school environment is accessible to all pupils, staff, and visitors. Our accessibility plan outlines:
- Adaptations to the physical environment, such as ramps and accessible toilets.
- Support for pupils with sensory or physical needs, including specialised equipment and resources.
Continuous review of our curriculum to ensure it is accessible and inclusive for all pupils. Our accessibility plan can be found on our policies page.
